Judi Cook Named Nebraska Genealogist of the Year

Judi Cook, education chair of the Lincoln-Lancaster County Genealogical Society (LLCGS), has been named 2014 Nebraska genealogist of the year by the Nebraska State Genealogical Society.

Over the last two years, Cook established weekly genealogy education activities for LLCGS members and the public. Most sessions are held on Sunday afternoons at Walt Branch Library. She has also arranged for veteran genealogists to help newcomers get started or work on expanding their family history research. Cook led the creation of special interest groups on German and British genealogy, DNA, technology and family history writing. The Sunday afternoon sessions attract an average of 30 people and are open to the public at no charge.

She was liaison with the Lincoln City Libraries in providing classes for One Book One Lincoln last year.

The award was presented at the annual meeting of the Nebraska State Genealogical Society on May 2 in Grand Island.
