Get to Know the Libraries Around Us

The Lincoln-Lancaster County Genealogical Society (LLCGS) is highlighting libraries this month!


The monthly meeting and program on May 14 will provide a virtual tour of the various libraries in Lancaster county and nearby. Find out what genealogy resources are available at the following:




  • Lincoln Public Libraries
  • LLCGS Library and Union College collection
  • Nebraska State Genealogical Society collection at Beatrice Public Library
  • Germans from Russia library
  • Nebraska State Historical Society
  • LDS Family Search Library
  • Nebraska Library Commission
  • University of Nebraska-Lincoln libraries
  • Genealogy resources in Omaha.
Plans for upcoming "field trips" to research libraries will be discussed.

Agenda

2:00 p.m. Gather in the Woods Auditorium in the Don Love Building on the Union College Campus. Refreshments will be served.

There will be a virtual tour of the Ella Crandall Library presented by library director Sabrina Riley and LLCGS librarian Cindy Cochrane.

2:45 p.m. - Participants will be divided into three groups for 45 minute tours of the following features of the library:
  • Union College Heritage Center
  • LLCGS Genealogical Collection
  • Union College Library and lower floor collections, including LLCGS archived records

After a tour led by Andrea Faling, we will have opportunities for research with assistance from LLCGS members who are experienced researchers at the site.

If somebody wants to venture further west, the North Platte Genealogical Society collection is housed in the North Platte Pubic Library, 120 West 4th Street, North Platte, second floor (there are steps and elevator). We have over 60,000 obituaries and many, many books, microfilm, family file collection, etc. Worth the stop if you are heading west through Nebraska.
